A 2-page layout, and the Potato Bar!

Thursday, July 31, 2008

I scrapped!

2008-07-pierce-kbalint-dbaldwin-and-me

2008-07-pierce-kbalint-dbaldwin-and-me-2

I used Kathryn Balint’s Little Jake Papers from KB and Friends, Twill word ribbons by Ali Edwards at Designer Digitals, and Darcy Baldwin’s Sweet Robin font from the Digichick for the journaling. I used Pioneer Woman’s Soft and Faded action on all the photos (and the quick edge burn on the large photo). The title font is Porcelain, and the 2-page template is by me and is available (sometime today!) from the Potato Bar at Polka Dot Potato.

Here’s a picture of that template:

Speaking of the Potato Bar, guess what I finished up and added to the bar?

JGordon_PDP_preview_square_calendar-500

JGordon_PDP_preview_landscape_calendar-500

For just 99 cents a piece, you will want to pick these up for Christmas gifts! The price will increase quite a bit once the Potato Bar is over, so don’t miss out on this special price!

The calendars, the CD templates, and the recipe card templates are all approved for digital scrapbook designer use. An AMAZING deal!

Head on over to Polka Dot Potato today!

The winner of the contest yesterday was lib_grrl. I’ve PM’d you over at Digishoptalk – if you haven’t heard from me, please contact me using the contact link up at the top of the blog.

Have a super day!

Great deals in digi-land and beyond!

Wednesday, July 30, 2008

For those wondering (yes, I’m sure there were so many of you! LOL!), I was able to be excused from jury duty. I’m pretty sure it was because of my scheduled trip. I’m glad, because it seems like it would have been a month-long trial.

If you are interested in entering the contest to win my portion of the Potato Bar, please see the post below. Don’t miss out – the deadline is 9pm EST tonight!

Onto the deals:

Designerdigitals is having a sale. You have to use a coupon code – see this post on their blog for more details.

I am thinking of picking this up:

E-scape and Scrap is having a sale on select Christmas items – up to 50% off! The Christmas Printables looks like a steal for only $3.25. (Be sure to scroll down to see the various previews.)

And, of course, the Potato Bar starts tomorrow. I’ll link you up then!

Here are more offers from beyond digi-land:

From one of my affiliates, MoneySavingMom:

Have you heard the big news? TODAY ONLY you can get an incredible ebook package from MoneySavingMom.com--over $100 worth of money-saving ebooks, homemaking helps, and encouragement for only $5.97! I can't believe she's offering such a great price and I'd highly recommend you run over here and check it out.

What makes this deal so good is that this ebook package includes the ecourse Supermarket Savings 101--this course alone is worth much more than $5.97 and will teach you how to drastically reduce your grocery bill. If high fuel and food costs are discouraging you and leaving you strapped for cash, you definitely need to buy this ecourse. You'll learn how to cut your grocery bill by up to 50% or more and have fun saving money at the same time! I especially think that this is a great book for those who are not familiar with bargain shopping/thrifty homemaking. As someone who is pretty familiar with these subjects, I still appreciated the encouragement, the menu plans, and all the bonus books that came with this $5.97 offer.

Go here to read more about this huge sale! Hurry, though, the price goes up tomorrow--get this money-saving ebook package at a ridiculously low price while you can!

On the same vein, I am totally a fan of The Grocery Game. I used to do the Game a couple of years ago, but got too busy. I started it again this week and it is super easy. It helps match coupons to sales while keeping track of the typical pattern of sales. I was able to do very well this week, and I think I even earned back a month’s worth of the subscription buying these we will need! (or eventually need) I chose to subscribe to 3 stores: CVS, Ralphs (a Krogers’ market), and Stater Brothers. I may or may not keep Stater Brothers – the deals were not that great – but I’ll keep an eye on it during my subscription period.

You can do a 4 week trial for $1, if you’ve never signed up before.  Here’s the link: https://www.thegrocerygame.com/con__DollarTrial.cfm. My e-mail address (if you want to use me as a referral) is gordons4God@verizon.net.

I better go – I am working on something that many of you Christmas gift givers will be SO happy that I put in the Potato Bar!

A contest!

Tuesday, July 29, 2008

Polka Dot Potato is opening its Potato Bar on Thursday, July 31st! (Just so you know, my blog writing software, Windows Live Writer, auto-linked Potato Bar, and the link won’t be live till then.

The Potato Bar is full of items for 99 cents each. Here’s a preview of what I will be selling – I think this is probably it, unless I come up with something quick & amazing in the next two days!

JGordon_PDP_preview_cd_templates-500

JGordon_PDP_preview_ice-cream-500

JGordon_PDP_preview_recipe-card_templates-500

Would you like to win my whole Potato Bar? Leave a comment on this post, and I will choose a random winner using random.org. Here are the rules:

1. One entry per person

2. If you don’t have a blog where I can leave a comment, you need to leave your e-mail address so I can contact you.

3. Comments will be closed for entries on July 30th at 9pm EST

So leave a comment, and you can win!

I may be scarce this week – I have to go in for jury duty in a couple of hours. I haven’t ever even had to show up for jury duty – only be on call – so this should be interesting. I may not be around much this week if I get picked for the case.

Have a great Tuesday!

coming soon…

Day 10 of the Polar Blog Express!

Wednesday, July 23, 2008

Oh my goodness – the presentation to the pastors went well yesterday! We were so blessed, too, by the support of the organization that we are partnering with to have an event for the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church: Open Doors. We met the president of the organization, Dr. Carl Moeller, and a man (who I am not sure if I can name for his security in China) who distributed Bibles to the underground church in China.  Both were engaging and inspiring speakers. One challenge that they suggested is to donate a Bible ($5 each) for every Bible you own. The Bibles cost $5 each to print and distribute to a persecuted Christian. Living in America, it can be easy to forget those around the world who do not have the incredible freedom of religion we presently have.

I’m hoping to share more tomorrow after I find out whether or not I can share the Chinese man’s story.

Monday, July 21, 2008

Is it day 8 already? I guess so!

But first, yesterday went very well. DD1 sang her solo very well and DD2, who was standing by her on stage, gave her a hug and kiss when she finished, like “Hey, big sister, I’m proud of you!” and DD1 hugged her back.

Here is DD1 singing her solo…

dbaldwin-new2ssd

You can click on over to Sweet Shoppe Designs to shop her products. I think she is a great addition to the store!

There is a chance that I will get to meet her during a layover in an airport this summer (afraid that the layover will be too short, though!), but she is in my top 5 of people I know from the internet that I would like to meet IRL. Totally a sweetheart, and a very interesting and fun person!

And in other news, DD2 had another ballet lesson this week.

IMG_1476

She has had a total of 3 lessons, all with different teachers. The first class was fine. The second class was horrible. She was tired and made tired, sad faces & postures in the mirror. The teacher that week was sort of a no-nonsense type of teacher and talked to me afterward about “is she like this all the time”? and “maybe she isn’t ready for lessons”. This is her first dance class ever, and I felt like that was a bit harsh. It is a beginning class, after all.

This week’s class, the third class went very well! The teacher she had this week will be the teacher for the rest of the summer, and she seems very sweet and willing to deal with the differing ages and talent levels of the class. DD2 was willing to work hard this week. I think she likes to wear her leotard and dress like a ballerina and look in the mirror – she is having fun and I’m happy about that.

Have a great Saturday! I hope you enjoy my freebie. Come back tomorrow!

In other news, I have one more layout to show you from the weekend:

Just a pic of me and the girls at the fair.
I used Kathryn & Velma Balint's Ragamuffin kit from KB and Friends. I also used Darcy Baldwin's DJB Liz font and a CD circle layout template for the circular part of the layout. The circle journal card is by Jen Wilson.
Thanks for looking at my layout!

Also, for those of you that Twitter and Plurk, I found an easier way to update Twitter & Plurk at the same time. I signed up for ping.fm using a beta invite code – you can use “thispingsforyou” (no quotes). It updates my twitter, plurk, and because of my Twitter settings, I think, it also updates my facebook status. Yes, these can be such timewasters, but it is kind of nice to stay updated on all these social networks at once.  If you want to add me on Twitter (or the other services), my name is Julianagordon.

Have a great Thursday. Come back tomorrow!

Day 3 of the Polar Blog Express!

I hope you enjoy my freebie!

I also wanted to show you a page I made this weekend:.

I love this pic of my older daughter.

The background paper is from Little Jake by Kathryn Balint of KB and Friends. The butterfly is from Kathryn Balint's Ultimate Altered Art: Wings and Things. I made the butterfly trail myself. I used DJB A Bit of Flaire font by Darcy Baldwin. The "Love" in a box is a font by Jen Wilson.

Also, I wanted to tell you about a deal that you might be able to use if you have a CVS nearby. They are offering photo books for free after rebate with their Kodak photo machine. (The way CVS rebates work – you buy something that earns you a rebate – Extra Care Bucks – and the rebate money prints out on your receipt. The rebate money is only good at CVS and it requires that you have a CVS loyalty card.)  If you are a scrapper, don’t think that you’ll be getting your pages printed – just take a bunch of photos on CD (or a memory card) to make a hardbound book that they snap together while you wait (in my case, about 30 minutes.) I made a 4 x 6 and a 6 x 8, and they turned out very nice. August is a month of many birthdays in my family, so I need all the help I can get. smile_regular You can find out more in this post on the blog, I Heart CVS.

I have been enjoying reading books that I got from Paperback Swap. Here are the ones I have read:

Heavenly Daze book 5 – really touching book!

Jamaican me crazy – fun read. Light and fluffy, which is how I like my books from time to time!

The Elevator – great read – good story!

Here’s a page I made yesterday…I love how it turned out!

2008-07-4th-of-July-cousins-kbalint-dbaldwin

One of my most favorite holidays of the year! Our family gets together and has a super time.

I used a tip from Jessica Sprague to brighten some of the pics. The frame is from KB and Friends Vintage Frames, and the rest of the papers & notebook are from her Little Jake collection. I also used Kate Hadfield's alpha for the title (I think from her blog a long time ago), and Darcy Baldwin's DJB Liz & DJB Jenna fonts.

I will show you more layouts this week. I did a total of 4 layouts yesterday – so proud of myself for that!

I did an oopsie yesterday when I was posting at DST for the blog train. I left one letter of my blog address, and it went to someone else’s blog, and it wasn’t a good blog. I didn’t even check it out – I just heard it was bad. :( If you clicked on that link, I’m so sorry! I will be way more careful when typing out my address. Makes me want to change my website name!

So, tomorrow starts the Polar Blog Express for me and a bunch of designers from Digitals (Digitalscrapbookpages).

Don’t miss out!

The Frugal Blogosphere

Saturday, July 12, 2008

After a few other bloggers recommending other frugal bloggers, I have added a lot of frugal living blogs to my Google Reader. It’s like getting little pep talks on saving money each day, as well as giving tips about which sales go with which coupons.

Coupon hint for you that I read a few years ago: don’t cut them all out. I just take them out of the Sunday paper, write the date with a Sharpie on the front – the date is printed really small, and I don’t want to have to search for it later. Then, I can look at the sales/coupons combos listed on the blogs and cut out just a few coupons. It’s so much easier for me than cutting out ALL the coupons and making time to file them in some sort of elaborate system. It works for me!

So here’s a list of some of the frugal/financial blogs I read:

Money Saving Mom is listed there three times there – one of them works, really!

I may not agree with every post (give less to charity? What?) but they do make for interesting, inspirational, and practical reading.

Since I know a lot of my readers are scrappers, I should probably should point out some good deals I’ve seen lately:

Darcy Baldwin is having a 30% – 70% off sale through Sunday. She’ll be moving stores (can’t tell you where! I’m on her CT, so I know – and it is an awesome store!) The sale is not on her font services.

Gypsychick has a good deal going on all the time – 40 overlays for 20 dollars! This is a super deal.

Buy Krystal Hartley’s Piano Room kit…

That offer expires July 16th.

Be sure to check back tomorrow for more information on the 12 Days of Christmas at Digitals!

Have a good Saturday!

A sneak peek at my new Christmas kit

Friday, July 11, 2008

(Just a little public service announcement here: it is “sneak peek”, NOT “sneak peak”. I’ve seen it misspelled before in designer ads, and I’m not sure what to do. E-mail the designer? I’ve never done that, and am not sure how it would be received. What do you think?)

JGordon_Christmas_Charm_Preview-500

It includes the papers shown plus 4 more, one ribbon, one bow, one jeweled trim, and 2 charmed words (not an alphabet). “Christmas” comes capitalized and not capitalized. (I couldn’t stand to see it not capitalized because Christmas is Christ’s birthday!)

Here’s the add-on that you can start searching for next week at Digitals:

JGordon_Christmas_Charm_add-on-preview-500

It’s all part of the upcoming Christmas in July promotion at Digitals!

You’ll also be able to go from blog to blog to pick up gifts each day. I’ll have a list of the participating blogs next week.

I am currently watching Good Eats fry up some macaroni and cheese. Um, you think I would be OK with that after my foray into fair food earlier this month. But I am not sure that even I would eat THAT.

Speaking of food, what recipes have you been making lately that are super easy? I would love some new ideas. I seem to have a little more time in the summer to cook, so this is a great time for me to try some new recipes.

Have a great Friday, everyone!

Busy, busy…

Thursday, July 10, 2008

I am working on a quick page album that I am going to give away page-by-page starting on Sunday. I have 6 more pages to go! Making the album necessitated making a new kit, and also making a little freebie you’ll be able to find in my store at Digitals next week.

Debating on whether or not I should show you the preview…hmmm. Maybe tomorrow? Come back for that then. smile_regular

Meanwhile, I don’t think I’ve specifically shown you my newest templates. The first 2 were previously available as promotions (the first from KB and Friends, the second from my blog), so make sure you don’t have them before you buy them.

Crazy for templates??

Wednesday, July 9, 2008

In honor of “Wonderful Wednesday” at Digitals, I’ve bundled up my new templates with all of my other square templates into one nice package!

It’s available for a limited time for $19.99! An awesome deal!

I’m working on a special kit that just might figure in to a daily freebie next week…stay tuned for details!

In other news, I think I am the last person to know that when you fly, you have to pay for any luggage beyond your carry-on. It’s almost unbelievable! I recently booked tickets for our family to fly, and I saw the notice about that. Yikes! I think we will check at least one bag. The trade-off would be that I can bring my camera & camera gear. I also need to see if the girls’ car seats count as luggage.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Wednesday! I plan on it! smile_regular

Paperback Swap & some scrappy goodness

Monday, July 7, 2008

I read about the PaperBackSwap site on someone’s blog this weekend, and I have been busy listing many of my books on the service! It’s free to join, then, you list 10 books you’re willing to send out to another reader (for keeps!) You pay for postage to send to them, but the people who send you books pay for the postage on the books you request. Seems like a good deal to me! I’ve already had 4 books requested, and I think pretty soon, about 8 more books will be on their way out the door. (These are books that were “wishlisted” by other readers).

If you sign up under me (by clicking on the link below), and post your 10 books available for trade, I get a credit for a free book. You get two books just for signing up and listing your first 10 books!

I’m looking forward to lots of fun summer reading. smile_regular

Two more months left of summer! I enjoy certain parts of it, but I still haven’t gotten into a routine. I work from home, so it is definitely an adjustment.

I’m in a bit of a shopping mood, so I looked at Sweet Shoppe designs for some clearance goodies. Here’s what I am considering:
